Waterfront, Countryside Bed and Breakfast In Coniston, Cumbria

Set in over 60 acres of breathtaking Lake District countryside, with private lake frontage and panoramic views over Coniston Water. Bank Ground Farm is an idyllic rural location, chosen by Arthur Ransome as the setting for his children's story "Swallows & Amazons", that provides a stunning base from which to enjoy a relaxing holiday, a romantic getaway or a celebration with your favourite gang!

Located a short walk from Coniston village on the north east shore of Coniston Water and half way between the two picturesque Lake District Villages of Coniston and Hawkshead. The Grade II listed 15th Century Farmhouse with original low ceilings, exposed oak beams, and open log fires has been providing a warm welcome to guests for over 60 years.

Our six individually furnished bedrooms, (with multiple combinations of doubles, twins and family rooms sleeping upto 17 people) are the ideal place in a fantastic setting from which to enjoy all the lake district has to offer.
The excellent cooked breakfasts from the farmhouse kitchen are the ideal start for any of the traditional Lake District activities including the walking, mountain bikiing, climbing and water sports right on your doorstep or an indulgent treat at the start of a lazy day.

Our self catering accommodation consists of six adjoining cottages, all sympathetically restored to a high standard whilst retaining the character and personality of the original farm buildings.

Each cottage has stunning views of the lake and fells and shares a picnic terrace. Situated on the same site as the Farmhouse half way between the two picturesque Lake District Villages of Coniston and Hawkshead they provide the ideal place in a fantastic setting from which to enjoy all the Lake District has to offer.

Our accommodation and kitchen mirrors what we enjoy and expect from our holidays.

We provide excellent food, a relaxed atmosphere, lots of activities and oodles of information; as we know only too well how important it is to enjoy every minute of your break.

If you enjoy nothing more than cooking up a good meal yourself then you'll be glad to hear that we have just opened a farm shop selling our very own meats and local produce.

We have over half a mile of lake frontage and a private boating area complete with launching area and jetty for the use of our guests. Guests are welcome to bring their own craft and use the boating area. For larger craft there are launching facilities either at Bank Ground Farm or in the village we also offer the use/hire of a mooring and boathouse as well as boat and trailer storage.

For those that do not have their own boat but would like to get out and about on the water we can arrange for any guest, regardless of experience, to hire a boat during their stay at Bank Ground.

Cycling is a great way to explore the Lake district, whether you are keen to tour by road or be a little more adventurous and head off mountain biking bankground makes an ideal base. We have plenty of secure bike storage and are more than happy to accommodate cycling groups.

We hire out Specialized Hardrock Sport bikes (13” to 21” frames) with front suspension and front & rear disc brakes perfect for beginners and intermediate mountain bikers as well as more experienced riders.

They are ideal for most of the trails in the area.

All bikes have a full service between each hire and cycle helmets and basic tool kits are provided.
