Foxton Beach is a popular spot for holidaymakers. The beach has good swimming, fishing, surfing, kitesurfing, four-wheel drive & cycle tracks, walkways and there is good hiking along the coast and in the nearby Taraua Ranges.
The Manawatu Estuary is a world-renowned conservation area with Ramsar status. There is superb bird-watching at Manawatu river estuary, where up to 38 species of migratory birds can visit, including Royal spoonbills, shearwaters, petrels, grey teals, sandpipers, godwits, terns and wrybills. A viewing platform overlooking the estuary is situated at the end of Dawick Street, Foxton Beach.
In summer the beach offers some amazing sunsets over the Tasman sea.
Foxton Beach hosts the New Years Beach Carnival held on the 2nd January every year.
